VETERINARY CLINIC OF THE YEAR
Eagle Ridge Veterinary Hospital receives National Award

For Immediate Release March 20, 2006

Eagle Ridge Veterinary Hospital in Sechelt has just been awarded the "Technews" Veterinary Clinic of the Year. Tamara Cox and Ramona Doucet, both R.A.H.T.'s (Registered Animal Health Technologists) have just recently returned from the awards ceremony that took place in Toronto at the annual Ontario Association of Veterinary Technologists (O.A.V.T) meeting and conference. The contest was sponsored by "Technews" who is the official journal for Canadian technicians and was open to all veterinary clinics across Canada.
Both Ramona and Tamara entered the contest separately by writing a 250 word essay on why they feel that they work at the "Clinic of the Year". "The moment I saw the title of the contest I knew I had to enter because that's where I work!" exclaimed Ramona. "The hardest part was keeping it down to only 250 words, there is so much that makes Eagle Ridge Vet Hospital special", commented Tamara. Even though there was only one prize, the committee decided to award it to both entries as they felt both were equally deserving. "We passed the final top entries around with the names covered up and when it came down to it we couldn't decide between the two", remarked Cass Bayley, editor of Technews". "However once we uncovered the names and realized each was describing the same hospital, we decided to award the prize to both of them!" Both entries touched on the uniqueness of the Sunshine Coast, the "family-like" atmosphere, the positive working environment and the respect and admiration for their boss, veterinarian, Don French.

The pair received 2 full registrations to the 28th Annual OAVT Conference and Trade Show, hotel accommodations and of course tickets for the banquet and awards night. Dr. French gladly supplied return airfare so Tamara and Ramona could attend this fabulous continuing education conference and of coarse, receive the award on behave of Eagle Ridge Veterinary Hospital. With over 2500 members, the OAVT is the largest animal health technician association in the world and with 1400 members attending this conference there was many excellent lectures, well known speakers and a large trade show of over 80 exhibits. Between the pair they attended many lectures such as; cytology interpretation, chemotherapy protocols, zoonosis, professionalism and ethics, as well Ramona got a chance to go on a behind the scenes tour at the Metro Toronto Zoo! The conference also provides continuing education credits which go towards maintaining their BCAHT association membership. "What a wonderful experience we had, everyone was so friendly, we felt like celebrities!" said Ramona. "Our colleagues could really appreciate the value of having such a great team and working environment." “A great location, compassionate, caring clients with their furry family members, a fantastic team, and the French's; Don and his wife Katharine make Eagle Ridge Veterinary Hospital the best place to work!" remarked Tamara during her acceptance speech.

For over 24 years Eagle Ridge Veterinary Hospital has provided compassionate, progressive healthcare to the Sunshine Coast pets. Now with the opening of their satellite clinic, The Landing Veterinary Clinic in Gibsons, they are continuing to grow to better serve their clients and patients. Dr.'s Don French and Shelley Murray, along with their dedicated and knowledgeable healthcare teams at both locations look forward to getting to know you and your pets!

Congratulations Eagle Ridge Veterinary Hospital!
