Tamara was born in a small community
just outside of Montreal, Quebec. Her great grandfather was a veterinarian
and like most little girls, Tamara
wanted to be one too!
After the family's move to northern BC, Tamara always had animals
around
her, whether it was the family dog and cat, her gymkhana pony or the
variety of livestock her family raised on their farm. After high school
graduation, Tamara won a scholarship to Fairview College in Alberta.
Here she enrolled into the Animal Health Technology course, which
is exactly the career that she had been looking for!
The 2 year course involved all aspects of small and large animal
medicine,
as well as exotic pets and laboratory animal care. Over the summer
breaks
she worked at the Northern Lights College Experimental Farm, where
they
raised reindeer and bison to see if it could help local farmers
make better
use of their land. It was a fantastic learning experience and in
1991 she
graduated as an Animal Health Technologist. After graduation Tamara
worked on a local bison ranch, as well as helping the regional district
veterinarian on some of the reindeer and red deer farms. Working
with large animals and wildlife can be dangerous (and very cold
in the -40ºc winters!) and Tamara wanted to use more of her
skills, so in 1992 she applied for a job at Eagle Ridge Veterinary
Hospital. As they say..."The rest is history".
COOL CORA
|
During their years on the coast, Thomas and Tamara
have shared their home with many "furry" kids. Most notable
was "Gizmo", an always grumpy-looking (but sweet) Flame-point
Himalayan who passed away Dec 2004. Currently the kids are "Gibby",
a local stray kitten that was brought into the hospital years ago
now sporting a saggy belly with a tiny head and tail! "Cora"
a Rotti/Shepherd cross, who is very hyper and seems to never slows
down and recently "Pete" a special senior cat from our
local SPCA, who everyone says looks like a lion!

Pete & Gibby
Being at Eagle Ridge Veterinary Hospital has been a wonderful experience
for Tamara. She is able to utilize many of her skills, her favorite
being dental
work because it is so important to the pet's health and there is
such an
immediate and visible improvement for the pet and the client! Above
all, the
doctors and staff are fun to work with because everyone gets along
and
enjoys being there! Over her many years at Eagle Ridge Vet Hospital,
Tamara feels fortunate to have met many wonderful clients and their
family pets. Many of these pets she has seen grow from cute puppies
and kittens to sweet seniors.
Tamara continues to love her job and along with the
rest of the staff,
strives to give their clients and their pets the best, most compassionate
services possible.
